The Lies Hairfluencers Have Told You
The lies hairfluencers have told you
Social media has given every hairdresser a platform. It has also given a small number of very loud voices an audience willing to believe almost anything they say.
Before you hand over money for another course, it is worth pulling apart the three claims those courses are built on. None of them survive much scrutiny.
The hair industry does not need more people selling certainty. It needs stylists who can think critically about what actually applies to them.
"If I can do it, so can you"
This is perhaps the most repeated line in hairdresser content, and it is not true. Career background. Access to capital. Which agencies somebody is signed with. Who they already know. Your circumstances are your own and nothing like anyone else's. A single success story tells you almost nothing about what will work for your salon.
Lie twoAre hairdresser social media courses worth it?
Look closely at who is selling the promise. Many of the creators offering to teach you how to land brand deals have agents negotiating those exact deals behind the scenes on their behalf. The playing field they describe is not the one you are standing on.
That does not make every course worthless. It makes the test simple: ask what the person teaching it actually did without an agent, a manager or an existing audience, and ask what happens after the course ends.
"This is how to go viral"
If it were that simple, would everyone not already be doing it? Anyone selling certainty about going viral is flattening a system the platforms themselves do not fully understand. Virality is timing, luck, platform behaviour and content quality in some order nobody can promise you, and no course can guarantee it.
The realityHow hair brand deals actually happen
Brands come back to people who are reliable, who make content that fits the brand rather than the creator's own feed, and who make the brand's job easier. That is far less thrilling than a viral formula, and it is the thing that actually pays.
Start thinking for yourself, and stop being influenced by structures that look a lot like an MLM with better lighting.
